The Smurfs And The Egg is the fourth comic in The Smurfs series and contains three stories. It was originally written in French. The Smurfs are small blue creatures who live in Smurf Village, which is headed by Papa Smurf. In The Smurfs And The Egg, the characters are busy preparing for Smurf Day. Papa Smurf is keen on baking a cake, but realizes that he doesn’t have eggs. Grouchy Smurf and his friend find one in the middle of the forest. In the village, none of the Smurfs are able to crack this egg. Out of frustration, one of the characters wishes that this egg would turn into a hot-dog, and suddenly it does. The villagers realize that this is a magical egg which can fulfil everyone’s wishes. Chaos grips the Smurf Village as every creature wishes for different things. Some Smurfs turn into giants, while others ask for money. Papa Smurf gets turned into a young fellow, and three others now look like him. Absolutely frustrated, Papa Smurf decides that he must do something to change the fate of this village. The Smurfs And The Egg also contains two other tales, namely The Fake Smurf and The Hundredth Smurf. The first one explains how the evil Gargamel turns himself into a smurf, and infiltrates the village. The second book shows how a hundred Smurfs are needed to perform at a ceremony, but there are only ninety-nine of them. These three stories were first published in the Spirou magazine. They were released together in the form of a book in 1968. They have all been adapted into animated TV shows.
