    I write picture books, nonfiction, and middle grade fiction. I love history and visiting schools to talk to young readers.

    TITANIC: VOICES FROM THE DISASTER was named a 2013 Sibert Honor Book and a 2013 YALSA Excellence in Nonfiction Finalist. Annie and Helen was a finalist for a 2013 Oregon Book Award.

    My most recent books are KNIT YOUR BIT, a World War I story, a historical fiction picture book set in 1918, won a 2014 Oregon Spirit Award in the picture book category and was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award.

    THE GREAT TROUBLE, A MYSTERY OF LONDON, the BLUE DEATH and A BOY CALLED EEL, won an Oregon Spirit Award for middle grade fiction and was named a Notable Trade Book in the Social Studies, a Junior Library Guild Selection, CCBC Choices, and SLJ Best Books of 2013.

    My next picture book, BEATRIX POTTER AND THE UNFORTUNATE TALE OF THE BORROWED GUINEA PIG, will be out in September 2015.
