Esi Edugyans novel centres on a group of American and Afro-German musicians who flee Germany for Paris as World War II closes in. This is a second novel for Canadian Edugyan, her first with Serpents Tail. It has recently been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in the Book at Bedtime slot.
