Kate studied her BA at Somerville College, Oxford where she was a College Scholar and received the Violet Vaughan Morgan University Scholarship. She then took her MA at Queen Mary, University of London and her DPhil at Oxford, where she received a graduate prize. She also took an MA in Creative Writing at Royal Holloway. She now teaches at Royal Holloway.
Kates book, with Alison Weir, Sarah Gristwood and Tracy Borman, The Ring and the Crown, is a history of royal weddings through the ages, drawing on the very rich research they have all carried out on royal marriage over the years. Royal Weddings, as the authors show, could be grand, humble, secretive, glamorous or ridiculous - but never dull.
Kate has written books on Emma Hamilton and Queen Victoria, and her historical novel, The Pleasures of Men, about Catherine Sorgeiul, a young woman in 1840 who terrifies herself with her obsession with a murderer, will be published next year. Her third history book will be out in 2012 and her third novel will be published in 2013.
Her second book, Becoming Queen, about the passionate youth of Queen Victoria and Princess Charlotte, Englands lost queen, was published in September 2008. It was serialised in the Sunday Telegraph Stella Magazine, and a Book of the Year in the Tatler and Spectator. Kate discussed it on Woman’s Hour, the Guestlist on Classic FM and the Simon Mayo programme on Radio 5.
